Unaccompanied/Solo Improviser Submission
FAQ
What types of curated teams are there in 2020:
- Our Traditional Performance Track
- A new Community Track
- A new Intergenerational Track
Who can submit to participate in curated festival teams?
Any improviser who will be at least 50 years old in 2020.
Do I need to come with my own team?
No. We accept any improviser for these teams because we make these teams up. We recognize that many Vintage Improvisers do not have their own teams to enter the festival. Our curated teams are made up of what we call solo improvisers as well as members of existing Vintage Troupes that we jumble all up. These teams are an important part of VIF because we work, play and perform with new members of our community under the direction of World Class Faculty.
How much experience do I need to be on a community-based curated team
You will be assigned to a team based on your level of experience. Because the festival is more accessible this year, we are opening up the teams to “young” improvisers, those with less than 1 year of experience as an improviser. We believe there are forms that can be satisfactorily prepared for an virtual performance for early improvisers so we want to celebrate that with you. We are going to take your word here. This is not an introduction to improv. We will have workshops for that during the festival. You need at least a beginners level experience to do this
What is a performance-track curated team?
Experienced Vintage Improvisers are invited to participate in an advanced program. To be invited, a performer must audition for the teams.
How many performance-track curated teams will the festival have?
We will create as many teams as necessary.
You will be assigned to a team of 8 and work in an intensive with one of our faculty and have an opportunity to perform. The link for submissions
What is an intergenerational Track?
We are offering a new track. A grandparent invites their improviser grandchild to participate together. Any improviser from 9-49 is allowed to participate with their grandparent, great aunt or uncle etc. The general idea is that there is a generation skip in ages. We would like to create one such team this year.
How do I get more information?
Complete the General Registration and then complete your submission for the team.
Is there a cost?
Yes. First you must complete General Registration. This is the entry point into the Festival. The $25 donation supports the administration of the festival. That includes our tech and festival support team fees. It does not include any payment for the Artistic Director or members of the VIF Inc Board. All such work is done on a voluntary basis to support the mission of our non-profit.
Once selected for a curated team, you will also pay for the educational fees associated with the delivery of your intensive. These fees go to pay our faculty and if any money is left over, it allows us to provide scholarships.
What do I need to provide for you to determine which curated team track I qualify for?
- Evidence of completion of a multilevel Improv Training program at an improv school
- A 15+ minute video in which you perform
- A written recommendation from an improv coach who knows your work well
- Previous participation in VIF
Must I live in the US to be on a curated team?
No. In fact if you are the first person from your country to submit , we will waive your General Registration Fee. You will still have to pay for the intensive. You just need to be able to improvise in English this year.
Our goal is to invite Vintage Improvisers from every country in the world!
